Textio Lavalier review – “Most tools document the interview. Lavalier improves the interview.”
An instant TATech tools Top 10!

TLDR = Lavalier is interview intelligence for teams that want better interviews, not just better notes. It guides intake, builds structured interview plans, supports interviewers live, and turns interview evidence into candidate comparisons — with a free tier that lets teams try the full workflow without a demo.

I love the positioning “A transcript of a bad interview is still a bad interview.” Lavalier is not just about transcribing calls and pushing the data into your ATS (which is a great feature of all interview intelligence tools) it’s core focus is making your interviews better and then summarizing the call and putting it into your ATS!
I’ve been using call transcription tools for over 10 years and AI interview intelligence for 5 years, so I consider myself an OG in the area – I just demoed Lavalier by textio, and my mind is absolutely blown! Lavalier seems poised to quickly become a market leader.
Lavalier feels like interview intelligence built for people who actually care about interview quality, not just transcription. Many tools can record a conversation and generate notes. Lavalier’s pitch is more useful than that: real-time question guidance, summaries, transcription, and evidence-based evaluations that help interviewers stay consistent and make better hiring decisions. It positions itself as going beyond “basic note-takers,” and that comes through in the product story
What I like is that it seems aimed at improving the interview itself, not just documenting it afterward. That is a smarter angle for TA teams because a perfect transcript of a weak interview is still a weak interview. If you care about interviewer consistency, better candidate assessment, and having actual evidence behind hiring decisions, Lavalier looks like a strong step up from standard AI note-taking tools.
Standard Interview Intelligence features: AI transcription, AI summaries, interview notes, ATS/calendar integrations, structured interview guides
Differentiators!
Live Guidance during interviews
Lavalier tracks questions and prompts interviewers in real time, including AI-powered prompts and checklists (BarRaiser tried to this in 2024 and sadly failed – they were ahead of their time!), so interviewers stay aligned to competencies. That is more operationally useful than post-call notes alone, especially for hiring managers who only interview occasionally
Candidate Compare grounded in competencies
The “Candidate Compare” feature appears to be a key differentiator: comparing candidates against the same competencies, rather than relying on notes, scorecards, and debrief opinions. Lavalier turns interviews into evidence-based candidate evaluations.
Responsible AI / compliance-friendly
Lavalier does not make hiring decisions, does not score/rank/recommend candidates, does not train on customer data, does not scrape/enrich candidate profiles, gives candidates notice, and has ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications. That matters because AI hiring tools are increasingly scrutinized, especially if they score or rank candidates
